IUSW Journals: New Journal Startups

  • New titles in the works:
    • RIED/IJED
    • Black Diaspora Review
  • Project goals:
    • Develop model for supporting specific requirements for new journals in IUSW Journals
    • Create a reference implementation of a branded and styled journal
    • Create the IUScholarWorks Journals Designers Guide to styling hosted journals in OJS
  • Skills requirements:
    • OJS configuration and administration
    • OJS style and template development
    • XHTML, CSS
  • Status
    • RIED/IJED being used as example exercise to develop Designer's Guide and reusable CSS

The Medieval Review in IUSW Repository

  • Project goals:
    • Ingest the retrospective backlog of TMR into IUSW Repository
    • Establish workflows and mechanisms for the ingest of prospective issues of TMR
    • Customize existing IUSW Manakin theme or create new derivative theme to support TMR requirements
    • Create a metadata mapping to DSpace Dublin Core
    • Create a XLST stylesheet to transform TMR XML into DSpace XHTML bitstreams

    • XSLT, XML, XHTML, CSS
    • DSpace configuration and administration
    • IUSW Drop Box Processor and/or DSpace import facilities

Streaming Media Integration

  • Project goals:
    • Develop support for the management of streaming media in IUSW Repository

    • Customize existing IUSW Manakin theme and submission interface to support media requirements

    • Manakin XMLUI theme development
    • XSLT, XML, XHTML, CSS
    • DSpace configuration and administration
    • DLP Video Streaming Service and management interfaces
  • Status:
    • HPER videos used as first use case to model implementation
    • HPER videos all processed via the DLP media encoding and processing system
    • HPER videos all available via DLP Video Streaming Service with PURLs

IUSW Dissertations

  • Project goals:
    • Develop workflows and automated processes to support the management of dissertations in IUSW Repository
    • Add features to local DSpace code base to support embargoes and batch item update
    • Customize existing IUSW Manakin theme to support dissertations requirements
  • Skills requirements:
    • Perl and Java
    • Manakin XMLUI theme development
    • XSLT, XML, XHTML, CSS
    • DSpace building, configuration, and administration
    • IUSW Drop Box Processor and/or DSpace import facilities
  • Status:
    • Project plan developed and estimated
    • Refining requirements and workflows
    • Some core components finished (drop box processor, IUCAT gateway)
    • Metadata analysis and mappings mostly complete

IUSW Data Service (phase 1, manual workflow)

  • Project goals:
    • Develop workflows to support the management of scientific data in IUSW Repository
    • Create a common metadata mapping and extend DSpace metadata schemas to suit
    • Develop procedural documentation for management of data in IU MDSS
    • Define mechanisms for linking IUSW Data items to content in MDSS
    • Customize DSpace submission interface system to support workflows
    • Create new derivative Manakin theme to support data requirements

    • Manakin XMLUI theme development
    • XSLT, XML, XHTML, CSS
    • DSpace configuration and administration
    • IU MDSS and related utilities and API's

AIM Upgrade to DSpace 1.5

IUSW Repository Statistics

  • Project goals:
    • Research, test, and select package(s) for providing statistical reports and feedback for IUSW Repository

    • Customize existing IUSW Manakin theme to support statistics packages

  • Status:

    • Minho and Rochester (IUPUI) packages selected and successfully implemented into one repository
