R1 is meant to be installed locally by partners/interested institutions to enable pilots. Pilots are considered to be limited real use.
Considering this, what kind of commitment can we make to people (e.g., what happens to the pilot after the pilot, for next release)? Is this an upgradable system or a throw away system? What happens to their video? Their metadata?
Should we recommend this pilot for people who do not already have Fedora?
This is a preservation system only insofar as Avalon knows about archival files, but it does not do any checking for file corruption, etc., that true preservation systems would provide. It is yet to be determined if Matterhorn can process uncompressed files (to be tested in an upcoming sprint).
