OAI Metadata for Wright collection

Source data: MARC; maybe want to get these dynamically out of IUCAT for the production Fedora ingest?
Mapping notes:

  • (tick) MARCXML is currently in one big XML file; need to write a small utility stylesheet to convert this big file into many .xml files, one per book.
  • (tick) Create MODS utility file
  • (tick) For MODS, the item identifier (both short and full) will use the form wright2-####. This form isn't exactly in the source MARC record anywhere, though. You'll either have to use an XSLT substring function to grab it out of the end of the PURL in the MARC 856 field, or read in the 001 field and write it out as lowercase. The latter is probably easier.

(warning) oai_dc

metadataPrefix: oai_dc
target namespace: http://www.openarchives.org/OAI/2.0/oai_dc/
schema location: http://www.openarchives.org/OAI/2.0/oai_dc.xsd
method of generating: (question) will standard MODS->DC stylesheet do?

Draft MODS to DC stylesheet for Wright: mods2dc_wright.xsl

Out put of the above mods2dc stylesheet:  mods2dcOUTPUT.xml

(warning) QDC

metadataPrefix: qdc
target namespace: http://epubs.cclrc.ac.uk/xmlns/qdc/
schema location: http://epubs.cclrc.ac.uk/xsd/qdc.xsd
method of generating:

(warning) MODS 3.4

MODS utility: utilityMODS.xsl creates separate MODS files for each title

Wright MARCXML to MODS 3.4 stylesheet: MARC21slim2MODS3-4-2-0.xsl (language?)

Output of this tranformation: wrightMods.xml

metadataPrefix: mods_3.4
target namespace: http://www.loc.gov/mods/v3
schema location: http://www.loc.gov/mods/v3/mods-3-4.xsd
method of generating: (question) start from LC MARCXML to MODS stylesheet and provide any necessary upgrades (including changing to 3.4)

(warning) MARCXML

MARCXML data, all records in one XML file
MARCXML utility: utilityMARC.xsl, creates separate MARCXML files for each title

metadataPrefix: marcxml
target namespace: http://www.loc.gov/MARC21/slim
schema location: http://www.loc.gov/standards/marcxml/schema/MARC21slim.xsd
method of generating: MARCEdit desktop software toolkit, then run this stylesheet to break big MARCXML file into a series of little ones, one .xml per book.
